Modernizing a Solution at Scale Using a Discovery Approach

Objective

Supported an architecture consulting and discovery initiative aimed at evaluating and modernizing a healthcare staffing organization’s technical landscape for its credentialing and compliance processes.

Working on credentialing workflows

Challenge

At the start of the engagement, SHC had already invested in internal development efforts for credentialing workflows but lacked a clear, scalable path to production deployment.

Key challenges included:

  • Incomplete path to production: Existing solutions required refinement to support enterprise-scale deployment and long-term maintainability.
  • Limited architectural alignment: Current-state systems required deeper evaluation to ensure alignment with future business goals and best practices.
  • Manual and fragmented workflows: Opportunities existed to automate credentialing and communication processes to improve efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
  • Lack of prioritized roadmap: SHC needed clarity on which initiatives to pursue first, based on value, feasibility, and impact.

SHC could not pause ongoing operations, requiring a discovery approach that balanced evaluation, alignment, and forward momentum without disrupting existing processes.

Solution

NLP Logix executed a structured Voyager Discovery engagement designed to translate business objectives into a production-ready roadmap. Key solution components included:

Current-State Assessment

  • Conducted workshops and stakeholder interviews to document existing mono-lithic, on-premise architecture, workflows, and constraints
  • Evaluated infrastructure, security, and data flows to identify gaps and inefficiencies

Future-State Architecture Design

  • Defined a modular, scalable architecture aligned to SHC’s business goals and growth strategy
  • Developed conceptual architecture diagrams and solution designs
  • Ensured flexibility to support future enhancements and automation

Automation Opportunity Identification

  • Evaluated credentialing and communication workflows for automation potential
  • Built a prioritized backlog of AI and automation use cases
  • Collaborated with SHC stakeholders to align on high-value initiatives based on business value, feasibility, and impact

Productionalization Roadmap

  • Delivered a structured roadmap outlining:
  • Development phases
  • Deployment strategy
  • Key dependencies and risks
  • Defined levels of effort and sequencing to enable efficient execution

Results

The SHC Discovery engagement successfully transitioned from assessment to a clear path for productionalization. NLP Logix identified opportunities to incorporate AI and intelligent automation into credentialing workflows. These recommendations informed the platform build, including early-stage document classification capabilities and automated compliance evaluation, enabling more efficient processing and improved scalability.

Key Outcomes:

  • Defined production-ready architecture: Established a scalable, modular design aligned with SHC’s strategic goals
  • Prioritized automation roadmap: Identified and sequenced high-impact opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort
  • Accelerated path to deployment: Provided a clear, actionable plan to move from existing solutions to fully productionalized systems
  • Improved stakeholder alignment: Unified business and technical teams around a shared vision and execution strategy

Business Impact:

  • Positioned SHC to scale credentialing operations efficiently
  • Reduced risk associated with incomplete or poorly aligned implementations
  • Enabled faster realization of value through targeted automation and structured execution
